Munich, 13 August 2008 – Realtime Technology AG (RTT) will now be advised by Paul Debevec in the field of computer graphics generation, following announcement of the cooperation by both parties at this year’s SIGGRAPH in Los Angeles. Debevec is considered to be a ground-breaking pioneer in the use of visual effects in the film industry. For example, the results of his dissertation about the generation of special effects were put to good use in the films “The Matrix” and “Batman Begins”. Paul Debevec is currently Associate Professor at the University of Southern California (USC) and Associate Director of Graphics Research at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies.
Debevec has primarily devoted himself to the subject of natural lighting with artificial objects. The techniques drafted by him have made it possible to seamlessly integrate computer generated images with real life scenes in film production. As an extension of this, Debevec has developed so called “Light Stages”, which allow computer generated actors to bathe in realistic light. “I am really pleased to be able to provide consulting advice to RTT”, says Paul Debevec. “RTT is a company that has already set standards in the world of 3D realtime visualisation and in the creation of computer generated films and images”. “Paul Debevec is a computer graphics icon. His past and current activities have really demonstrated his pioneering activities and have provided decisive impetus to the use of computer generated content in the film industry”, comments Ludwig A. Fuchs, co-founder and board member of RTT AG. “I am convinced that he can provide considerable assistance to our continuing technological development”.
