NEW YORK, November 2, 2010 - Managing Automation Media, a Thomas Publishing Company LLC business, is now accepting nominations for its 7th Annual Progressive Manufacturing Awards Program.

The global Progressive Manufacturing Awards Program recognizes best-in-class manufacturers from the U.S. and abroad.  The 2011 competition will recognize 100 outstanding manufacturers chosen by a distinguished panel of judges based on achievements in the eight disciplines that make up the Progressive Manufacturing concept.

"The Progressive Manufacturing idea continues to capture the spirit of an industry that is in the throes of dramatic change," says David R. Brousell, Editor-in-Chief of Managing Automation Media and a Progressive Manufacturing judge.  "As manufacturers emerge from the recession, they are striving to restart growth through product innovation, new ways to provide value to customers, and in the opportunities that can be derived from the use of new technologies.  Manufacturers everywhere are determined to realize a better future, and this spirit is clearly reflected by companies participating in the Progressive Manufacturing Awards program."

Since its inception in 2005, the Progressive Manufacturing concept - which advocates manufacturing business transformation supported by advanced technology - has been underpinned by a set of key business and technology disciplines.  The award winners are selected for their success in completing projects that demonstrate mastery of the eight core disciplines as defined by Managing Automation.

The 2010 Progressive Manufacturing Award categories are:

  • Business Model Mastery
  • Customer Mastery
  • Operational Excellence
  • Data & Integration Mastery
  • Education & Training Mastery
  • Innovation Mastery
  • Leadership Mastery
  • Supply Network Mastery

Based on evaluations by a panel of expert judges, winners will be selected in the following categories:

  1. The Progressive Manufacturing 100 will recognize the top manufacturers that have completed projects demonstrating mastery of at least one discipline in the Progressive Manufacturing concept.
  2. High Achiever awards will be given to those projects that demonstrate maximum mastery of one of the eight core disciplines (i.e., a High Achiever award will be given to the best project entered in the Data & Integration discipline).
  3. The Progressive Manufacturer of the Year Award is given to a company that demonstrates mastery across multiple disciplines.  Managing Automation will honor both a large and a small company as a Progressive Manufacturer of the Year.

Companies recognized in 2011 will join a prestigious group of previous award recipients, which include:

  • 3M
  • Chevron
  • Dow Chemical
  • Dow Corning
  • Du Pont
  • Freescale Semiconductor
  • General Dynamics
  • Hyundai Steel
  • Ingersoll Rand
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Pfizer

Winners will be announced in February 2011 and will also be honored at the 2011 Manufacturing Leadership Summit Awards Ceremony to be held on May 9-11th at The Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
