Oasys the software house of Arup have recently launched a new version of GSA, their popular structural design and analysis software.

Footfall analysis in GSA 8.3 now includes the option to analyse according to The Steel Construction Institute's (SCI) P354 "Design of floors for vibration: A new approach", in addition to the Concrete Centre's CCIP-016 "A Design Guide for Footfall Induced Vibration of Structures".  The SCI publication provides guidance for vibration design of all steel-framed floor and building types.  It extends the previous guidance to special floors such as hospital floors, laboratories and light steel floors etc., where there is a real need to understand floor vibrations accurately.  GSA 8.3 now covers all of this.

GSA performs a range of analysis and design of structural models composed of skeletal frames and two-dimensional finite elements.  Whether the analysis requirement is for static or dynamic, buckling or soil-structure interaction, bridge optimization or form finding, GSA is the perfect tool for the ever-increasing demands placed upon structural engineers.

Developed in-house at Arup to meet their demanding and diverse requirements, its capabilities have been proven on thousands of complex and prestigious projects worldwide including the Swiss Re, Gatwick Air Bridge and The Water Cube (National Aquatics Centre, Beijing).

GSA 8.3 is also one of the few programs to seamlessly link to Autodesk Revit Structure 2009, by allowing you to export from Revit to GSA, update Revit from the GSA model and create new Revit models from GSA via the GSA/Revit Structure plug-in.

You can use GSA 8.3 for free.  The trial version is fully functional for 30-days; however when that period expires the software will continue to work but with a limited capacity.  You are only limited by linear static analysis, 50 nodes or elements, and your imagination!
